What is an average starting salary for a Texas high school Computer Science teacher?

I'm a Computer Information Systems major thinking about teaching when I graduate (in Texas). How much is the starting salary approximately? I've read that it is significantly higher than teaching other subjects since there is a shortage of Computer Science teachers. How do I get my teaching certificate after I graduate? Can I start before I graduate or before I complete my certification? Thanks!

Either check the TEA website or look at individual school district websites. Some have their own salary schedules posted. I used to teach math and science and heard the same things about how I would make more because it was in such high demand. Taught at three different schools. Never happened. You only make more if you coach.

Reply:It varies from district to district. A beginning teacher of any grade level or subject in Cypress-Fairbanks is $39.5K.
Reply:The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career.
