What kind of Computer Science jobs exist?

I'm majoring in my third year of computer science and just realized that many jobs wanting my expertise will be office/cubicle jobs. Having an office/cubicle job right now and deciding that the office life is not right for me, I'm wondering where I will end up in the future. I'd prefer a job where I can travel and live wherever I want, perhaps somewhere in Europe, and write/modify code from a remote location. That would make me happy.

My computer science professors emphasize working on teams and I don't know if I would be able to travel and do what I want and still remain part of that team.

What I'm really saying is that my dream is to travel (not just whimpy vacations, but to live), but most jobs in the computer science field are office-like and, in my opinion, boring.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can do both with a computer science degree? - travel and work remotely.

What kind of Computer Science jobs exist?
Check O*NET. Search computer and travel, see if you get anything.
Reply:No, you aren't likely to be able to travel all the time with a computer science career - or most other careers either. Very few if any employers will let you just sit on a beach somewhere and work remotely. Even jobs where you work remotely usually have fairly frequent face-to-face meetings.

Welcome to the world. That's why they call it "work" - it you got to set the rules, and do what sounded like fun to you, they'd call it play. And nobody would probably pay you for it. But if you get a good enough job, you'll have the money to travel on your vacation time.

There are lots of jobs in the computer field that don't involve spending most of your day in a cubicle or office, but they do generally require that you be in a certain place.
Reply:I saw a site last year for the first, I think their guide is so strong and they have many secrets that no one don't know about it, Go and visit them, and then plz tell me about what do you think about their secrets, They are a great site I think.

Which of the four universities offer the best computer science program for undergraduates?

I want to go to one of these universities to major in Computer Science: UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara. Which one is the best in computer science for undergraduates?

- Is it much easier to get accepted into UCLA with a major in Computer Science than other majors?

- Please provide as much information as you can. Thanks

Which of the four universities offer the best computer science program for undergraduates?
UCLA's the best for CS. Followed by UCSB, UCSD, UCR. It won't be that much easier. History, English, etc will be easier.
Reply:UCLA is the best for computer science. UCLA is known as a a good engineering and computer school.

But, you must know that UCLA is a competitive school, so you need to have very good grades and great SAT scores.

As a Computer Science student, what books should I read to improve my knowledge and increase my job value?

Hi,

I'm a 2nd year Computer Science Engineer student and I've wasted two of my years just mugging up syllabus and then vomiting it on my exam papers. But now I wanna change. I want to read and increase my knowledge database so that my job value increases and people come to see me as a database itself.

I was wondering if any of you guys could tell me in what way I should proceed so as to increase my overall IQ. Should I start will small level books and proceed to higher level or should I increase my knowledge in other areas as well so that my overall IQ increases.

Ok, so I quess I want more of an opinion rather than an answer. Also can you 'wise and resourceful' people please tell me how I can get hold of some books (I mean e-books) to increase my knowledge the way you suggest? And pray tell me it in detail, ok?

Thank you!

try wrox publishers books...they r easy to understand and very informative.

For those who graduated with a degree in computer science?

im strongly considering a degree in computer science

what kind of job do you have? do you find your job satisfying?

optional--how much are you making?

For those who graduated with a degree in computer science?
I am a recent CS grad and I really like the job. Currently I work for a large academic journal, and I do backend programming for the websites. I code in Ruby, PHP, Perl you name it. I work whenever I want, I have a very good salary (sorry can't say) and I go to work wearing whatever I want with great benefits. Also nobody ever bothers me, I am in control of what I do etc. Overall it is a great job and I am really happy.

The key is though would you be happy? I like work that is challenging, and keeps me thinking and this certainly does. I used to work fixing stuff when I was in school and programming is very similar. The downsides: You sit on your butt all day... I like being active. You work with dorks, but then again programming is a pretty dorky field (but since I work whenever, I party all night on weekdays :) So give it a try by working somewhere part time or as an intern. It is the only way to know

What makes a high school student to get into taking the computer science as a major?

The question could be either way.

What creates interest to a high school student to get into computer science field???

What makes a high school student to get into taking the computer science as a major?
Want to be a hacker, crack the bank sites and get a lot of money...
Reply:The first thing you might want to do is determine if you're suited to the field. Try to find a personality test online called "Myers Briggs". It's a personality test that tells you what type of fields you might be a good fit in.

As far as the draw to the field. Well you have like puzzles, you can't be afraid of math, you also might get some satisfaction from building things. Interest, in my opinion is not created externally, it has to come from within, and the only way to find out if you'd like something is to try it out (for example take a couple of programming classes).
Reply:the online games
Reply:Typically games... but the trick is keeping their interest once they realise that not all CS work is about games.

maybe you could write about the history of computers, starting with vaccum tubes, how the transistor was invented, include other components, such as capacitors, oscilators, resistors, etc, and how they all tie together to give us what we all use today, such as email, or your cell phone, or even your car.

then you could theorize about ideas for the future, and how various things will change, like using gas insted of germanium, silicon, gallium arsenide, and silicon carbide to carry currents...

What do I need to do to prepare for AP Computer Science?

Ok, so I'm taking AP computer science this year and was wondering if anyone who has taken or is taking the class could tell me what I can do to start preparing for it?

What do I need to do to prepare for AP Computer Science?
Determine the type of programming language that will be used for the course. Buy a book based on this language or use internet references. A good book will help teach programming methodologies as well teach you language syntex. Both of which you will need to know for your class. If you are unsure of the language, try learning C or C++. These two languages are very good at helping a beginning progammer learn the basics of object oriented programming. A must-know when doing small or large scale projects. Hope this helps.
Reply:Well, usually you learn in class. But if you want a head start, I would first learn about how computers generally work and function. Then I'd start learning all the little details about that, like, why does stuff happen.
Reply:Visit this blog and your question will be answered. If you need more help will be glad to hear from you.

any college admissions people out there with some advice ?

How can i convince my parents to let me drop Computer Science AP and take Bio II AP?
Stick to the positive in your discussion - I want to take AP Bio II because it will help me in this way , or help me achieve these goals (short or long term)......or opportunity to take the class under a great teacher that you might not get again.

I assume you know why your parents want you to take c. science. If you have to negotiate my friend - maybe how about a quickie summer school class for c. science??
Reply:At my school we don't have to have parental permission to drop a class. go to whoever does scheduling at your school and tell them you wanna switch
Reply:dude do you still have to ask your mom if you can go out. Do what makes you feel right and what you like, dont be doing anything just because some one else wants you to do it. My mom wanted me to become a doctor but i am gonna be a freakin' cop. Big difference huh? I really dont think much of what she wants me to be in life. You need to do the same buddy!!

I AM PLANING TO MAJOR IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL

I am taking computer science in the fall , what kind of math would be involved?
You will need:

1. Algebra (for simple calculations),

2. Inductive Logic (for Loop statements)

3.Binary Logic (for if-then-else)

4. Set Theory (for search/compares)

Any more math can be accessed thru simple interfaces to specialized libraries.
Reply:You're going to need the whole Calculus program. Make sure you really do well.

Wouls it be practical to double major in Computer Science and Music Recording/Technology?

I know these fields are very unrelated, but i love music in all it's forms. Everything from in the studio with a band, to in the auditorium with a choir, to on stage in a musical. it's become a passion. the problem is i started very late in my musical career. i only have 2 real years of experience in ensembles. i couldn't fit music theory into my schedule though. i just feel like i got started to late and now i'm not prepared of music major auditions.

anyway, i've always loved computers and working with them and problem solving and coding. plus, i know computer programming is a growing field with decently high salaries.

so what i'd really love to do is combine them together and develop software for music and/or recording. like Finale, Cakewalk, Sonar, etc, etc. but is this really a realistic idea? will i end up wasting my time on a education in music?

ps: i have been accepted already to the schools of my choice for computer science, i'm just considering a dual major or minor in music.

Wouls it be practical to double major in Computer Science and Music Recording/Technology?
Sweety, you are never too late to love music in any form. And I don't think the fields are unrelated. You could very easily apply your computer knowledge to music and vice versa. This will be a very challenging path to take and will require a great deal of dedication on your part. The courses will be tough and you will be studying endlessly. But, oh the things you could do when you are done. Just think of the inspiration the music will give you when you combine them both. You go boy! My hat's off to you. I wish you all the luck in the world.
Reply:I think its an excellent choice.

If you ever wanted to be a producer, you will be ahead of the game since so much of that equipment is all computerized now.

Several of my family members have degrees in music. Its their love and they can't imagine doing anything else. Having the extra education in ANY field will never let you down.
Reply:You should definitely major in Computer Science. Before you decide whether to minor or major in music, check out the requirements for the major or minor and talk to students about the workload. You will be surprised, but majoring or minoring in music takes up A LOT of time. You'll have to spend hours practicing an instrument or figuring out music theory. It would probably be very difficult to do both as majors.

What degree to programmer employers seek in a candidate? Information technology or Computer Science?

I am interested in pursuing a career as a software engineer. I am deciding between a graduate program for a Masters Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.

Please see these two programs.

http://cs.kutztown.edu/programs.asp

and http://www.edinboro.edu/cwis/Math-CS/it/...

These are the only two PA State schools with grad programs in CS/IT. IUP has one as well, but I do not want to go there.

I have a BA in Speech Communications, and have no formal training in CS. I have e-mailed the department chair of the program at KU. He suggested me to take 7 undergrad courses for me to enter the Masters program. They're program is arranged where I could concentrate my studies on programming. Would I be more marketable if i had an MSIT?

What degree to programmer employers seek in a candidate? Information technology or Computer Science?
I personally do not hire anyone at all with a MS in a computer related field with an unrelated BS. I have seen this turn into a disaster too many times to count when I have been unable to convince others not to hire these people for their departments. They have no useful skills whatsoever. I once had to work with a person who didn't have enough practical computer skills to be a secretary, let alone a Software Engineer.

If you have a BS in a computer related field or EE, and an MS in a computer related then you can go right to the top of the pile, because I know you are serious about what you want to do. But with two unrelated degrees, straight into the trash.
Reply:I have a bachelor degree in computer science and I have worked in IT for over 14 years. I enjoy what I do but I wished when I was yonger and had more spare time to pursue a master degree in computer or an MBA. So, yes take that master!!! You will benefit a lot in your career.
Reply:My employer goes only for Computer Science.

Is computer science a good field to get in?

I want a job where i can get to work with both computer and science ( research and stuff), and if i major in computer science will get a job right after graduating from college.

Is computer science a good field to get in?
I have a B.S. degree in computer science and the last time I did any research was...probably never. Most of day is filled with hammering out code and doing system design and documentation. YAWN! In college, most computer science courses teach you how a computer works, either with teaching computer hardware architecture or software programming.

If you want to research theory, then you will need either a Masters degree or a Doctorate degree in computer science.

Most likely, you shouldn't have to difficult finding a job out of college with a B.S. in Computer Science, depending on your location. I have heard from friends and professors with M.S and Phd's in Computer Science and finding a job is more difficult, because of the increased competition and fewer jobs available.
Reply:It's not as good a field as it was 10 or 20 years ago, but is still good. If you have good grades in a 4-year degree and do an internship or two, you'll probably be able to find a job without much trouble.

Good luck.
Reply:Great field to get into. Very challenging from what I hear. Be ready to bust your butt learning programming languages.

Good choice for getting a job after grad, but you still have to do something to set yourself apart (interships, special accomplishments, work for the school, high grades, etc). Internship is a big deal, because lack of expereience is what usually makes it hard for recent grads to get hired.

Good Luck!
Reply:There is one thing you should consider. The Computer Science field is just that...a Field. There are many many many jobs in that field and I personally find it confusing to decide which job fits me best. I have been trying for a while to get into it myself.

Straight out of college, your chances are much better because they will be more accepting of a younger person not having experience in something than they would be if you were older.

Try to think of what sort of programming you want to do, try to think of what sort of people you want to work with and try to think of what Specific skills you will need. You will need to have a nice long talk with your career counselor about this and preferably a number of mentors. Ask your programming teachers to refer you to someone for mentoring.

Heh.....if only I could turn back time and do things right the first time around......

Good luck.
Reply:Some places do hire right out of college (like Google who loves to hire from colleges). However I also know of technical companies who would rather hire based on experience than formal education because there is the problem of the stuff they are teaching you in school not be the latest stuff and you not learning how to keep up with it in school.

So you got a good chance, but may have to start small to get experience.
Reply:i am confident that if you apply yourself and do well, you will have no problems find a job after college. it is not what you, just look else where. the possibilities are just about endless.
Reply:If you're smart, you'll find a job without a problem. A degree will get you interviews. The rest is up to you. Try to go to one of the better schools.

Are chemistry and computer science related?

Could any of you argue that chemistry and computer science are related in discipline? I'm not saying they are related literally - but I've seen computer science teachers with PHD's in chemistry - I mean is the thought process similar because with chemistry you're dealing with equations that follow laws put together to produce a productive result, and in computer science you are putting code together that follows rules to create an effective result as well?

Are chemistry and computer science related?
I'd say computer science ties in nicely with physics as many of my friends at university have taken this combination. Although I can see your point but there are many mathsy subjects that may also be familiarised. Possibly in the case of medicinal chemistry or biochemistry your observations hold most true.

Is Villanova University a good University for study Computer Science?

I'm an International student from Milan.

I 'm interesting into Villanova University (for study Computer Science).

It's a good school?

It's very hard to be admitted?

Is Villanova University a good University for study Computer Science?
Villanova is a very good regional university. It is not as good as the top national universities (e.g., Ivy League schools or the elite public universities). However, it is better than most universities in the US. It is regularly ranked as the top university in the Northeast US that offers graduate programs but offers few PhDs.

It is highly selective. It is not easy to get into, but not impossible.

Their science programs are very good -- including Computer Science.
Reply:In America, I think that most schools that offer Computer Science is just about at the same level. Technology in the West is growing at such an alarming rate that all professors should be at the same level. Of course, there will be some professors that have more knowledge about a particular subject, but you are going to find that wherever you attend school.

As far as their admissions requirements, check out their web site. Usually admission requirements are tougher for international students, due to the fact that there is a greater chance that the student will not continue to study in the US

What is a definition of "users" in computer science?

What is a definition of "users" in computer science?

Are there any synonyms for word "user" in computer science?

What is a definition of "users" in computer science?
A "user" is the person who operates the computer - you are a "user" when you sit down to your computer; so am I. "User" is also used to mean "customer," as in "end user" referring to the person who will purchase a product from the retailer and actually use the product.

On the other hand, a "server" is a piece of computer equipment which coordinates information among several computers, to give a simplistic explanation of a contrasting term.

What career can you have in Technology [computer science?]?

What career can you have in Technology [computer science?]?
If you get a real 4-year computer science degree from an accredited university, you can work as a "software engineer" in various places. Typically you will program applications software or databases (or maybe java apps).

Typical salary can range from $60K to $120K+ depending on experience and on exactly what you end up doing.

oh yeah i have no real work experience

I have a bachelors degree in computer science from the university of Jordan I moved to USA where can i work ?
There are very few jobs for computer people in the US. All of them have either been shipped to India or are reserved for Indians coming here on H-1B visas.

I've never heard of anybody actually getting a job on Monster, but you can try. There are a lot of fake jobs listed there. Companies are required to advertise jobs before they give them to H-1B's, but they aren't required to actually hire anybody else.

Also, when you see a job that says "must have 3-5 years experience", it means that 6 years is too much and you aren't qualified. Likewise, when they advertise, "Must speak fluent Hindi" and "must be recent grad of IIT" you know not to bother applying.

There are about 500,000 unemployed but highly skilled computer software engineers in the US right now and they are all looking for work. Most of them have a good bit of experience as well. You will be competing with them.
Reply:sorry, you'll have to go to India. That seems to be where all our computer jobs are going.

Not really, just being bitter....but its gonna be tougher than it would have been 5 years ago.

try websites like monster.com....if they don't have anything listed, they can at least give you some ideas
Reply:I am not sure exactly what you can get with your degree, but go to www.monster.com to post a resume and I am sure you can check out what is out there for you. Businesses can see your resume and will contact you. Good luck!

What are the specific jobs and sub-majors in Computer Science?

I want to go to college with major as Computer Science.

But what exactly is computer science composed of?

because on college infos, there are like, computer informatic and stuff...

What are the specific jobs and sub-majors in Computer Science?
well basically you learn all sort things about programming, the algorithm of programing and different ways and languages use to program for example C, C++,Java, PHP and socket programming, depend on your university really. I started off with C and then continue to use other programming languages.

Job: freelance programmer, software developer, researcher, engineer (maybe if you merge your degree with engineering) and other things.

What's difference between computer science and computer software engineering?

i m interested in goin in one of these fields but i m not sure what's exactly difference between Computer Science and Computer Software Engineering, Can anyone please explain me what's the difference as much as possible, i looked in google search but still confused..

thanks!!

What's difference between computer science and computer software engineering?
Software Engineering is basically desiging and implementing software systems. You would take more classes in design patterns and software architectures.

Computer Science is the blanket degree for basically all of computing. You would take the same amount of programming, likely more networking, hardware and OS oriented classes.

Each class would prepare you for a fine career and both degrees are sought after. To be honest, they are usually still interchangable with most employers. If someone is seeking a software engineer and you have a degree in computer science you wouldn't likely be excluded from the position based on that. That goes vice-versa as well.

You'll probably be taking the same classes until your junior year anyways where the programs will start to differ slightly.
Reply:Computer Science is more broad. It talks about electronics and hardware devices along with software development and how they all work together.

Computer Software Engineering's focus should be more concentrated on software development.

While in college, I was a Computer Science Major, but I saw that people were not finding jobs with that degree, so I changed majors. I ended up dropping out and getting an MCSE. A computer science degree sucks in many ways. First of all, It is really a tough major, and secondly when you get it, your job is always in jeopardy of being shipped to India. Honestly, I never liked the idea of unemployment lines, which is fairly common for programmers, so I concentrated on support rather than development. When I go back to get a degree, I hear that BCIS is a good degree to get into management, and that unfortunately is where most of the money is in this field.

You can if you do well on the MCAT.

Which college should I go to as a computer science major? UCI or UCLA?

I don't know which school would be better for me as an undergraduate college. I got a lot of financial help from grants and scholarships from UCI and I only have to pay 2000 dollars per year out of my own pocket. However, I have to pay around 11,000 per year dollars through loans, work study, and parental contribution to go to UCLA. Both costs are for on-campus attendance. I am wondering if it is worth it to go to the better school, UCLA. Which has a better computer science program? Is undergraduate college THAT important? Or maybe I should go to UCI and consider a better graduate school. Thanks for your help.

Which college should I go to as a computer science major? UCI or UCLA?
You are better off going to UCI.

Reply:WOW im in almost exactly the same situation. im choosing between UCI and UCLA as a computer science and engineering major. i got chancellor's scholarship from uc irvine and nothing from la. la is ranked like 15 and irvine is ranked like 30. at the la engineering open house, they said only one third to 35% of engineering students graduate in 4 years, which is somewhat scary. im leaning towards la, and i think you should too, because 11000 is nothing compared to my 24000. i got absolutely no grants. the downside to la is that it is significantly more competitive.

What kind of job can you get with a degree in Computer Science?

What kind of jobs are there for peopple with degrees in computer science?

What kind of job can you get with a degree in Computer Science?
Yeah I got a BSc in this computer science thingy. What I do in real life has very little to do with what I learned in those classes. I'm actually in finance now.
Reply:Unless you are in India, there are very few jobs actually available for a CS grad. In the US, most experienced CS grads are now doing other things - like working in the WalMart TV department.

If you check the employment listings, you'll see that there is virtually nothing available for CS grads. You might be able to get a tech job delousing people's computers at a computer store.

Nevertheless, college recuiters are still singing the same song that have pre-grads believing that they'll be able to walk into any business and demand to get a job and be paid $100K/yr and get it.

The sad fact is that most CS jobs have gone to India and aren't coming back. An American with a BSCS at minimum wage can't compete with a PhD in India earning $1.50 /hr. These days, with the Internet, it makes no difference to the employer exactly where the programmer is located geographically.

If its not too late, I suggest a different major.

What strategy should be taken to study computer science in order to get good result?

.i'm first year student who study com.sci in an university.i found computer science is too tough to me expecially in C++ and math.

What strategy should be taken to study computer science in order to get good result?
Learn algorithms and flowcharting. It will help you to understand and develop logic easily. For every problem you are working, develop a flow chart representing how that problem is solved.

And the best way to master C++ (or any other programming language) is to read books and write lots of programs. That will give you good practice and you will master the subject easily.

Good Luck.
Reply:One way you can break into a new language is try something a bit less complicated like a scripting language like javascript or mIRC scripting (which is what I initially learned). They can give you the basics about logic, functions, and program structure. Then you will find the languages like C++ more easily digestable.

As for the math, lots of examples and practice. No way you really can get around the math in comp sci.

Good luck!

Should I continue with my Computer Science Major?

I enjoy working with computers so much. I am always finding ways to fix problems with my computer as well as with the computers of others. I took a class in computers but I did not enjoy programming...should I give up with my major in computer science? Are there any other options for me in the computer field not dealing with programming and if so...what should I change my major to?

Should I continue with my Computer Science Major?
Computers are hardware and software. Programmers for code and Electrical Engineer's for hardware. The purpose of a computer is to compute a PROGRAM. You will master programming which ever way you go.

I read "stinking thinking" in your question. Look in the mirror and say, "I will master code. I will learn to love coding". Just saying that to yourself is 50% of the learning process. Now take the book that you used and read the sections that involved coding. break the terms down. Be "one" with the concepts. If the first read

leaves questions read it again. Write questions about the concepts of coding. Teach some coding. You will become a quick expert in any subject you try to teach. Try an easy code like interpreted BASIC. Computers are the new paper. As I write my machine is fighting AIDS and finding new proteans using distributed computing. Computers are incredible. The present is filled with them; the future will be even more so. You made a very wise decsion to go with a computer education. You can do it.

I am intrested in working at a TV station but I am going to school to major in computer science b/c i got a full scholarship to major in that degree and that school doesnt have mass communications as a minor. Would I still be able to get a job working at a TV station if I have a degree in Computer Science?

You usually have to intern at a TV station before you can get a job there because most require atleast six months experience. Good luck!

What is the importance of Computer Science in improving mathematical skills?

Since Computer Science and mathematics are related, computer science must have importance in mathematics, so what could it be? %26lt;project in cs%26gt;

What is the importance of Computer Science in improving mathematical skills?
Other way around, math is more important to CS than CS is to math. We couldn't have Computer Science without Math, we could have Math without Computer Science.
Reply:CS helps you think very abstractly about problems and it also helps you to organize your thoughts. In my computer science class, we are given programs to write and it requires meticulous attention and a little bit of clever thinking to figure out how to write the code. It's a pain in the *** lol

Reply:In many fields of mathematics computer science does not play a large direct role, and may not add much insight.

The areas of closest direct overlap are between theoretical computer science and discrete mathematics. But there, as grizzbr1 correctly points out, the relationship is the other way around, and the math helps to understand the computer science.

Number theory and computer science are connected, in that the ideas from number theory are helpful in the theories behind computer security and the evaluation of computer performance. Here again, the math influences the computer science.

On the other hand (and I realize that this is a different question from the one you asked) computers themselves play a big role in three areas of math: numerical methods, visualization, and education.

Numerical methods are approximate ways to solve mathematical problems that are too hard to solve exactly. The approximations are done on a computer. In this sense, computers can improve mathematical skills, because the numerical solutions may yield new mathematical insights towards exact solutions. The fields in which this might occur include diffrerential equations and applied mathematics.

Visualization helps to express mathematical concepts and ideas graphically, so that greater insight can be gained. The explosion in computer graphics technology has been of great help in this regard. Here again, computer technology can help improve math skills, particularly if you are interested in geometry and topology.

Finally, computers are of great help in providing new, innovative ways to teach mathematics at all levels. The graphing calculator (which is really a handheld computer) has become a standard teaching tool in introductory math courses. In higher level math, many textbooks have CD-ROMs for further illustration, computer-based excercises, and web sites with additional materials and corrections. This is the most direct way in which computers can improve mathematics skills.

What is the difference between Software Engineering and Computer Science?

By the way, i discoevered computer science is not IT....

What is the difference between Software Engineering and Computer Science?
software engineering is about designing and writing software to solve a computing problem.

computer science studies the theories behind computer architecture, programming techniques.

Reply:nothing in my opinion. I did a degree in IT half the class were in computer science and half were in electrical engineering same degree different admin....

but I suppose Software Engineering is all about the software production lifecycle from requirements analysis to design - implementation - production -support of a piece of software and computer science is more along the maths of the actual languages (java, c++, c machine code, bits, bytes etc) and processes associated with the CPU. but they overlap

or you could wiki it ;-) but then what do they know ;-)

Do you need a laptop for a computer science major?

I'm looking to purchase a new computer. I'm taking computer science at college in the fall and common sense would tell me I need to buy a laptop as I might need to bring it in for presentations and notes and programming. I realize that not every classroom I'll be in will have a comprehensive computer lab. Is this a correct assumption and should I buy a laptop for school.

or are my assumptions not true and a laptop won't be needed and I should buy another desktop?

Do you need a laptop for a computer science major?
That would depend on what college you will be attending. One of the techs that I use as a subcontractor attended one university and had a daily need for a laptop from his sophomore year to his final semester. Based on his experience, another one of my subs, who is now a senior in the Computer Science curriculum at a different university, bought a laptop which hasn't been out of his apartment except when he takes it along to do a little homework on skiing weekends.

My best advice would be to get one if you can afford the cost differential between a laptop and a desktop, since the laptop gives you far more flexibility (like the one tech's skiing weekends). But if money is at all tight, talk to your advisor first, and find out whether the CS curriculum at your college would necessitate having a laptop. If not, you'll get far more bang for the buck, from a system capability standpoint, with a desktop.
Reply:No. Don't do that. If your going to college you need a laptop. Most colleges require you have a laptop. Especially if it is a 4 year type of college, but be sure they don't require you buy from them, or a certain brand.
Reply:your assumption is right and you will need a laptop as student
Reply:special focus on laptops just in

Computer science vs programming. What is the better route? What independent studies should I do in high school

I'm planning on going into the computer field after high school. Right now I am a junior (11th grade) and an honors student. I am stuck between Computer Science and Computer Programming. Even though I'll be taking Calculus AP next year in high school, I want to stay away from advanced math as much as possible as that's one my weaker subjects. I'm shooting towards a well-paying career (over $70,000US a year not considering the inflation rate in the next decade). I'm looking for advice on whether I should go toward a Computer Science major or Computer Programming? I have an open period this year and one open period next year during my school day in which I can do an independent study with the help of my computer programming teacher. So far I am familiar with Visual Basic 6, HTML, Java, many professional web design applications and can troubleshoot many problems on Windows.

What major is better in terms of jobs and salary?

What major is easier?

What courses to take in high school?

Computer science vs programming. What is the better route? What independent studies should I do in high school
I hear this question a lot. I have a BS in Computer Science (CS) and have no certifications but earn well into 6 figures (13 years in the field now currently specialized in SQL Server/.NET). Programming is a subset of CS. CS deals more with problem solving, algorithms (step by step solutions in english), data structures, computer architecture, etc. things on a much more theoretic/abstract level. You also learn application/database architecture, crucial to providing overall solutions.

Programming on the other hand is just a language used for a particular application (solution) and gets translated into via an algorithm written in english. Example, I had never used Active Server Pages (ASP) or Visual Basic (VB) before and wrote a full blown enterprise application using these technologies and the only thing that slowed me down was learning the various language syntax. Bottom line, a degree is invaluable, learning languages is secondary.

I believe a Computer Science degree is the best credential, don't worry about level of ease and for high school, focus on math, physics, etc. I personally went to a Cal State where their CS program was accredited (very hard) and got the most out of it but go check out various univeristies for CS programs.

Good luck!
Reply:Computer science will teach you the fundamentals that you'll find necessary if you make a career in computer programming.

Computer programming, on the other hand, can be had at any old community college or online university. Besides, if that's all you know, you're competing with all the offshore development (read: India) that's being used these days.

Computer science is the way to go, but it will be more challenging in college. There's some advanced math, but it's fun, stuff like discrete mathematics, you won't really need calculus.

Good luck.
Reply:TBone's right. Computer Programming is a 2 year degree, and doesn't address the theoretical and engineering issues that you'll learn about in Computer Science.

Now, if you just want to bang out very simple code, Computer Programming is probably fine, but he's also right to point out that these are the kinds of jobs being outsourced.

The higher level jobs that involve software engineering are not so easily commoditized. For example, interacting with a customer to understand what exactly they want generally requires personal interaction. It's much harder to do that sort of thing remotely. The customer's specifications then have to be turned into a design, which is not something taught in a two year program.

If you want something less technical that still pays well, you could also look at MIS (Management Information Systems). MIS people use tools to solve the IT problems encountered in the workplace. This also requires physical presence, so it's not so easily outsourced. Computer Scientists are the ones building the tools. So, if you like making new stuff, CS is the way to go, but it's a harder major.

How can I get MBA in a new business school after I graduated in Masters degree of Computer Science?

How can I get MBA in a new business school after I graduated in Masters degree of Computer Science?
You'd be a strong candidate since even though your undergrad gpa is rather low, your first graduate degree will be what's noticed. You will need to take the GMAT and score high though, to be considered at good schools. Biz schools really love candidates that have technical backgrounds so you'll fit in just fine and shouldn't have any problem with the coursework.

I think, the best university for teaching computer science or pyschology is UP...I think, UP is known for being highly recommended in so many aspects. like in choosing your course to take up in your college...but actually, it depends upon the student if you're really competitive enough and you're willing to learn..it's not the university that counts, it's on the person itself on how he/she handle....that's all..

How much time will be given to accept US Computer Science graduate school admission offer?

I am applying to the following universities for Master in Computer Science: Stanford, CMU, USC and U. Penn.

If I am being admitted, in general how much time will I be given to accept or reject the acceptance offer?

Thanks!

How much time will be given to accept US Computer Science graduate school admission offer?
Most American graduate schools have standardized the date for accepting an offer of a fellowship or assistantship: April 15. When I applied to graduate school three of the four institutions that accepted me set that as the date to accept their offer. The other institution (at which I was not to be funded) was in June or July, I believe. I don't have the list in front of me of schools that have signed onto that April 15 date, but I remember that most of the elite Unis in the States were on the list.

You probably will receive letters back sometime in between late January and early March. Thus, you should expect perhaps between one and 2.5/3 months to make up your mind. This, of course, assumes that you are not an alternate at one of the programs. If that is the case, you might not know until much later if you have a spot and would likely have much less time to decide.

Hope that helps! Good luck, hope you get good offers!

As the first poster says, find a company willing to train you. At your stage, you are not expected to know a lot, but if you show strong aptitude, companies will be interested.

I guess I should warn you, however, that most of the work you describe, i.e. building a system from the ground up, gets outsourced nowadays to overseas companies, where the programmers get paid much less. Developmental programmers used to command a lot of respect. Not anymore.

Seriously though unless you know a guy who knows a guy that knows a guy thats the CEO of Microsoft then you are most likely going need a degree that at least has the word programmer/programming in it.

The degree I'm about to start entiled Programming/Application Development for instance. Once you get your degree then you find classes on extra languages you wish to add to your vocobulary and read lots of books.
Reply:I would start by reading this book: http://www.amazon.com/Code-Complete-Seco...

I do agree with the other posters that getting a job without the degree isn't easy. It's not impossible, though. A sick building chased me off campus after 3 years.

Which one is better Education for the future a Doctor or a Computer Science?

I am wondering which field of study is better for the long run. Is it better becoming a Doctor or finishing a career in Computer Science? Thanks

Which one is better Education for the future a Doctor or a Computer Science?
Good question. From your question, it tells me you have a very balanced brain and smart. Most people lean toward one side. I am more engineering than biology for example. Even someone once in awhile mistakenly called me Dr. I would only thing about medicine in a dream. :)

I have BSEE degree with MBA. Have lots of friends/relatives who are doctors. Here is my take.

One friend got a EECS from UC Berkeley and then went to medical school. He is a pediatrician now.

Another guy is going through the similar path. From UC Berkeley and is medical now. He is a bit younger than the first case.

Computer Science is a field that is changing a lot due to outsourcing etc. The low lever job will be done in India and China. Doctor's jobs is much harder to outsourced. Even some are talking distance medicine. It is about 5% or less. Most people don't want to see their doctors more than 50 miles. Dealing with someone long distance is much harder. Health monitoring is totally different. If you go Computer Science go with something special. Another friend graduated from Stanford and went to Google (turned down an offer from Microsoft). She will have a great future knowing her ability.

To sum it up. If it all equal to you, (big assumption on my part...so much different in the field, pay, nature of work, location, different stress level etc.), medicine seems to have a bit of the upper hand.
Reply:according to me both the options are good for the future and u must be knowing that now a days computer engineering is on a very fast and vast scale of development so more and more new tech. is being introduced so later it will become a very very vast topic, doctor is also not a bad option they are required in very large nos. and are doing a good sort of work by saving people's life so your choice depends upon your choice of subjects and ur interest, all the best......

If I am in a computer science discipline and after 3 year studying, if I found I do not know how to program?
There are a lot of other things in the computer industry that do not require programming. Systems administration/IT support is the main one I think of.

Look at your non-programming CS courses and figure out if there is anything you really liked

I'd also go to your school career counceling center and have them do some personality and interest test that will give you an idea about what else you might enjoy.

If all those don't work out, I'd say that really research any new field before changing your major.
Reply:Switch majors is really your only option. Why stick with something you are not good at? And there will be no point is trying to force yourself, if you don't have the talent for it, you just don't have it. Try to find another major related to what you've already learned, but with less emphasis on programming. What about web design, computer information systems (or management information systems), or even an engineering major?

Take some time to research other majors, what the job prospects are, and whether or not there's a lot of programming involved. But you have to decide quickly, don't waste anymore time studying something you know you are not good at. Remember it's just as important to find out what you are not good at as it is to know what you are good at. It's too bad it took 3 years to get you to this point.

Why is chemistry and computer science majors ph. D? While Medicine and theology have different terminal degree

Philosophy is definded as "love of wisdom," an umbrella term under which there are so many branc studies.

1.) What do we call the branch study of Philosophy?

2.)Explain why Chemistry and computer science majors terminal academic degrees are Ph. D (Doctor of philosophy) while Medicine and Theology have different terminal degrees.

Why is chemistry and computer science majors ph. D? While Medicine and theology have different terminal degree
1: Medieval relic, ignore it.

2: Because the MD and Dr.Div are practice degrees not research degrees while the PhD is a research/academic degree. It is possible to have both a Dr.Div and a PhD in Theology, for example. Likewise, it is possible to have an MD for the practice of medicine plus a PhD in "Medical Sciences".

Should I do an Acting BFA major or a Computer Science BS major in college?

I'm having a really hard time deciding. Please help if you can.

I am passionate and experienced with both areas. I've worked with my dad (systems engineer) and I've been in many high school, community, and other plays and have an interest in film acting (acting since 7, film and theater experience) and a lifetime contract with John Robert Powers Modeling and Acting Agency.

They're both dear to my heart and When I think of Acting, I want to do nothing else. When I think of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, I'm so excited to start...

but I don't know if they will let me double major in such a diverse double-major.

I need advice.

Should I do an Acting BFA major or a Computer Science BS major in college?
Be honest with yourself. If you are truly passionate about one over the other, choose that field. There's no point in making a lot of money if you have to spend every day doing something you don't love.

If you are equally interested in both, talk to your academic adviser. Is it possible to double major? There's no harm in asking. If not, what about majoring in one and minoring in the other?

In my opinion, you would have more flexibility with a computer science major and a minor in theatre. You'd be able to get an excellent job coming out of school, which would support your acting career, if you choose to continue in it. Several of my good friends are now-graduated theatre majors, and they ALL have day jobs. Your day job may as well be something which you enjoy, in which you are trained, and by which you can make a good living.

The point I'm trying to make here is that a degree in computer science is very flexible and will make you very "employable" after college, which will give you the freedom to pursue your other interests. As I'm sure you know, it takes a long time, a lot of talent, and a lot of persistence to get to the point where you can make a living in theatre, or even film. Also, it should be fairly manageable to pursue your acting career outside of your other studies-- e.g., you can still take theatre classes as electives, participate in school productions, etc.
Reply:An education and degree in Computer Science would bring a fairly secure financial future as a career and since you truly enjoy the field, I'm sure you would excel. Fine Arts, acting, stage, can all be done in conjunction while you major in the field that will afford you a steady "role".
Reply:I am an actor in LA. I did a BFA in Acting. While I don't regret my choices, GET THE COMPUTER SCIENCE MAJOR. If you can double major great -

but here's the deal

if you become an actor you will have to support yourself for a long time before you make any money. You can wait tables, or actually do something you like. If you do become an actor you will be taking lots of acting classes in whatever city (LA or NY if you are serious) anyway. You'll get the training on the job. Can't do that so much with the computer stuff. And BFA programs for the most part do not train you for films, or give you any education in what you will be doing most of the time as an actor - marketing.

I am sure people will argue with me, but I'm living it, and that's my honest advice.
Reply:Such diverse double major is very expensive. So think carefully before you pursue your destined choice. Normally, you need to pick the course that you like most. Should you

find that it's not functional or lucrative in terms of job creation; you need to opt for the other. All these cost money. So you need to be rationale in your choice.

Reply:Check out David Mamet's excellent book, "True or False" and go for the computer science major. If you want to minor in theater, fine, but a BFA is more important for the talented contacts you will make than for anything usefull you will learn. The best way to learn acting is to perform, so you may want to consider a school that has a healthy theater community around it. Good luck.

What are the possibilities for employment in software development with a certificate in computer science?

I've been interested in computers and computer programming for a long time but my university education is in linguistics. There are lots of certificate programmes that require one year of study at many of the french speaking universities in quebec, canada and i was thinking about enrolling in one. Will the fact that I only have a certificate from a 3 semester course as opposed to a degree in computer science done over 4 years severely limit my possibilities for employment ?

What are the possibilities for employment in software development with a certificate in computer science?
I have known people in this field who don't have the computer science degree but they get paid very well and they are good as well....

If you have enough experience, you could make it to this filed as far as I know to the "Programming" filed just fine...

If you got no experience, try to get a job as entry level and when you show your skills and ability , you will get a better job within a year.

now it's not a very good year for computer field :(

good luck anyway,

Cathy

Does the world need all those computer science graduates?

I'm a computer science freshman and I'm very happy in my major, but I'm afraid that I might not find a job with a good salary after graduation because of the great number of computer science graduates every year.Is it risky to complete in this major? can u give me an example of a graduate salary and position.

Does the world need all those computer science graduates?
Obviously not, as i am one! and cant find a good job. In the UK there are not many opportunities, but u just gotta keep searching. Be persistent and never give up and someone will give you a chance, its a hard one. Some times i think was it worth while me getting a degree. Then after 6 months i got a temp job within IT so that was my start hopefully this will bring good things. Take every chance you get also try to undertake work experience while your studying will make a difference

What are some good colleges that offer variety of computer science courses?

I am a sophomore in High School right now and i am pursuing a career in computer science. which colleges offer a variety of computer programming course's,for example, computer programming, web page design, software developing. I want to get either a Bachelor's degree or a Masters degree. I don't know which one is better, can you very nice people also explain this to me. I have no one else to talk to so please help...This is about my future and i need somebody to help me because my parents are not well educated

What are some good colleges that offer variety of computer science courses?
The University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana has a very strong computing curriculum, with majors offered though both the colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Engineering.

I got my MS in Computer Engineering there in 1972. You can talk to your high school guidance counselor, he or she will have access to course catalogs.
Reply:The University of Nebraska has an exceptional computer science department and for your masters MIT.
Reply:In the U.S. there's MIT and in Canada there's the University of Waterloo. Hope that helps.

Does anyone want to work with me to maybe come up with a way to get a Computer Science Job?

I have been searching for a computer science job for 1 1/2 years. I am very frustrated, but not giving up. I have worked at UPS for more than 5 years now and for anyone who knows how UPS work's you have to be there for a few years in order to become a full-time employee. I have been giving the chance to do so and I am happy. That job pays pretty well. I started the training for it this week, but my problem is that I went to school for Computer Science and I've been searching for a job in that field but have had no Luck. I'm running into the same problems as everyone else in the field. No one seems to want to be hiring. Not anyone without 2 years experience anyway. I'm here to either find out a way to get a job or ask someone who is willing to try and help each other. What do we have to lose but opportunities?

Does anyone want to work with me to maybe come up with a way to get a Computer Science Job?
Dude, the computer field is dead and has been since about 2000. There are no jobs out there so stop beating yourself up looking for the tooth fairy (another mythical creature). All computer work is being done in India or by Indians in this country here on an H-1B visa. I suggest you go back and pick a different major. Either that or get used to working at UPS. I've offerred to do computer work for $6/hr and was told I wanted too much money. Does your UPS job pay that much?
Reply:where do u live ???????

u say you went to school, do you have a certificate, 2 year degree? 4 year degree? in what field ? comp sci or mis ?

Reply:you did not give the details about ur place. if u r in such a place where it is in high then go for which package is required for the recent it company. then learn it as much as possible. after that if u r confident anough then go for any consultancy who help u to go for interview in the company. this is one way.

another way go for any refference and give interview.i think u will get success

Are there a lot of career opportunities with a computer science degree?

im majoring in computer science. i wanted to be a software engineer but it seems really hard. are there alot of career opportunities with a computer science degree besides software engineer?

Are there a lot of career opportunities with a computer science degree?
No.

computers are a dying industry.

(I'm obviously being facetious)
Reply:Yes! Programmer, Programmer/Analyst, Systems Analyst, Software support specialist, technical writer......
Reply:You can do anythign with a computer science degree. Having it makes you attractive to any company. You could go into any field... do not limit yourself to a job that is only focused on computers but stick with that degree.

Should I go on for a Masters degree in Computer Science or train for certifications?

I will be finishing undergrad college this year with a degree in Computer Science and I was wondering if it would be better career wise to get certifications such as MCSE or should I find a college with a masters program in Computer Science and take that?

Should I go on for a Masters degree in Computer Science or train for certifications?
Get an MBA. If your undergrad is in CS you need the business skills now, not more computer skills. The programming is going overseas. You need the business acumen and project planning to compete now.
Reply:WITH THE ADVANCE IN THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SEEKING JOBS NOW AND THE EFFECT THAT GLOBALISATION IS HAVING ON THE COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD ONLY THE FITEST WILL SURVIVE SO I SUGGEST YOU DO THE DEGREE AS THIS WILL GIVE YOU AN ADVANTAGE OVER THE OTHER PEOPLE SEEKING JOBS AND PLUS WITH A DEGREE FROM A WELL RECOGNISED INSTITUTION YOU MIGHT EVEN GET A MANAGING POSITION...............IF YOU ARE SEEKING TO WORK IN A SUITABLE POSITION AND WISH TO GET THE RECOGNITION YOU DESERVE GO DO THE DEGREE A BIT LONGER BUT MUCH BETTER
Reply:Depends on your ultimate goals and what sort of career path you'd like to go toward.

A certification might help if you want to specialize in one area or another (software platforms, network services, operating systems).

A Masters will help if you want to broaden or diversify (media design, digital media, computer-based research).
Reply:That depends on what you want to do in the future. Certifications are typically faster to obtain (timewise), but, as they tend to be very specific (software/technology/version) they need to be renewed/upgraded on a regular basis. Also, a certification pigeon-holes you into a certain track.

A Master's in Computer Science will continue teaching you the fundamentals and common links of computer science, and will not typically be bound to a specific technology / software / version, providing more flexible career choices in the future; however, it will take more time to accomplish and will cost more.

What's the difference between a Bachelor of Computer Science and a Bachelor of Computing?

I am currently accepted to the University of Guelph for a Bachelor of Computing and Mcmaster University for a Computer Science degree. I would much rather go to Guelph because it is closer to family. Is there a difference in getting a Bachelor of Computing and a Bachelor in Computer Science. This is really bothering me. They have many of the exact same courses, just they call it a different name?

What's the difference between a Bachelor of Computer Science and a Bachelor of Computing?
Not a lot - basically the same.

Thanks

Master's in Computer Science from a different educational background?

I'm halfway through a Psychology degree, which I am really interested and involved in. I know Psych. degrees are a dime a dozen, and I know that the job prospects with only a Bachelors aren't great within the field, but I feel that this degree will be fundamentally applicable to everything I do, personally and professionally.

I don't know yet if I really want to go into counseling of any type, or the typical Psych. grad school route. In researching career ideas, I've seen how much the Computer/IT industry is going to continue to be a hotbed of opportunity and development.

Finally, as the title asks, would it be possible, and wise, to look into doing a master's degree in some area of computer science or IT along with my background in Psychology?

Honestly, career options seem dim right now in many sectors. There's been so much "educational inflation." I'm trying to get the best, well-rounded education I can, while being conscious of the future of the job market and economy. Thanks.

Master's in Computer Science from a different educational background?
Computer Science has always been a good choice, and always will be. However, don't expect to be paid based on your education until you have quite a few years of practical, real world experience. But once you do get that experience, with a fat Master's under your belt, your opportunities should be limitless.

Check out the guardian uni guide as you can judge unis according to different criteria, employablility, teaching, staff: student ration etc.

Reply:Caltech,MIT, maybe Rice University, those 3 are the prestigious universities, dont know too much about any others, sorry.
Reply:Leicester in UK, but they are getting rid of staff because of lack of students wanting the course, 4 yrs ago it was 1 in 20 who got accepted.
Reply:Universities of London include: Kings College London and Queen Mary
Reply:Assuming the UK, then, after the ones that go without saying: Imperial, UCL, Warwick, Durham, York.

You might want to consider which aspects of computing most interest you. If it's applications then you might want to look at Business IT courses. If you are interested in Artificial Intelligence then it might be a different set of courses. Looking at the on-line prospectus, along with the research interests of the staff can help.

You should also look for information on the student experience at each uni. In some cases the teaching can be by postgraduate students, as the academic staff are dedicated to their research.

Good luck.
Reply:oxford university is the best
Reply:These days, each school has its own idea and definitions of what Comp Sci is. Don't let it bamboozle or overwhelm you. Some universities list it under Industrial Technology or Information Technology so be sure to explore those areas. Others may also list it under Schools of Science and Technology as well as Business Technology. It can include anything from commercial applications (CISCO, RedHat) where the companies will actually assist in developing the curriculum to programs that actually train students in using programming languages, algorithms, etc (COBOL, FORTRAN, Perl, etc). Many things may seem like "old" technology such as first, second, third generational language programming and you may feel like you won't get the "latest and greatest" information. Be sure to look over your prospects and find a program that combines a good balance of the old with the new. There are many places that need "legacy" help and knowing or at least being quite familiar with the old will help you in the long run, especially with companies that have not got the "latest" for economic or budgeting reasons. (money makes the world go round after all).

Also, in this day and age of increasing technology use, all this stuff is adapted on a daily basis to many different career paths. It's not just used for NASA anymore! Sony (as well as other companies) is into "robotic technology" so be sure to not overlook that either. Plus, it's available in agriculture, manufacturing, textiles, medicine, business, education (imagine that), and what many may still consider "lesser" or "blue collar" applications. It's available everywhere, so be sure to keep an open mind.

Yes, the colleges listed surely have great reputations but what good is it if it's not something you prefer? Be sure to check over the websites and email the departments for more information. It would also benefit you to contact technology and computer science associations. International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED) is a group. Another is the National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT) of which I am a member. Association for Information Technology Professionals (AITP), Institute for the Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP) is another.

It would also help if you could speak to members of honor societies in certain curricula. I'm a member of Epsilon Pi Tau, Beta Mu chapter through the ECU College of Technology %26amp; Computer Science (my degree info was listed under Industrial Technology. I have a degree in Technology Systems with a concentration in Digital Communications. See what I mean about how things are listed? Some curricula are much broader than others) . It's the third largest college for the state of North Carolina. The specific College of Technology and Computer Science at East Carolina University is made up of seven schools:

Design, Industrial Distribution and Logistics, Engineering,

Manufacturing, Construction Management, Industrial Technology and ... Computer Science!

There is the Association of College Honor Societies. Each curriculum has its own honor society. I've looked for more "global" information because I'm not sure where you are and I want this to be as complete as possible. I've got the following site because I am an EPT member http://eptglobal.org/ but I don't have any other information regarding other honor societies. I'm sure that if you ask the specific schools where you request information, they ought to be able to give you the Trustees names of their societies.

I will also list the above info in my sources listing to help you out.

I'm sorry if all this is overwhelming. If you're new to things it may benefit you to find a 2 year college first to get a better feel for what you are looking for to fit your needs and career wishes. I've seen lots of students change curricula because it really wasn't what they wanted... after 3 years of study. Sometimes they end up having to go an extra year or two because it was quite late when they figured out what they really wanted.

Yes, I am a professor, and I personally vouch for East Carolina University (alumni and adjunct). It doesn't sound like much to many, but we've made great strides in technology with corporate and community involvement.

I can also vouch for Pitt Community College (2 year college). Last year they received a sizeable grant for the Biotechnology Department.

Whatever you decide, visit as many campuses as you can. I wish you the best of luck.
