Would I find a better job majoring in math or computer science?

Or both?

I'm currently a Freshman and, having been thinking about what I want to do after college, discovered I have no bloody clue.

I just want to make sure I make enough money to do things that I like.

I guess it would also be cool to enjoy whatever I'm doing.

Anyway, should I major in computer science or math?

Would I find a better job majoring in math or computer science?
I'm currently an engineer in college with a dad who is a math professor. I can say without any doubt that it is much much much better to major in computer science...if money is any factor whatsoever. However, as you get further in computer science, you'll notice that many concepts in math and computer science are quite intricately linked.

Job opportunities for CS graduates are quite abundant...almost any Fortune 500 company will have a need for CS graduates. Go to any career fair and CS will be high on the list of demanded majors.

Math, on the other hand, is not something that is particularly easy to find a job with right out of college. Many who are interested in math will go into academics.

Now for some #'s: Microsoft pays interns $5000 a month for their first year there and $6000 the next. Full time starting salary for a CS Microsoft employee is $7000-8000 / month.

Math...eh...

I know up to this point its sounded pretty $$-centered, but really, CS and math aren't that different. It's not like you're picking between your greatest passion in interpretative dancing and civil engineering. Go for CS...its what industry wants...

Also: I'd say that neither major is more difficult than the other. One significant difference: math is quite proof and theory based--and will have homework in the form of problems. CS is projects...LOTS.
Reply:The fields are fairly closely related, so in either one you'll get exposure to the other. I'd go with math because I'm 23 and I only program occasionally, and I already have serious wrist and eye problems from being on the computer all the time. Even though in a math major you'll use the computer, you're not totally dependent on it.
Reply:Go for maths. Once you know maths you can learn other subject easier. Also, maths teaches you logical thinking, analytical thinking etc.

If I were you I would go for Maths.

Hope you make the best choice. It is your decision and do what you feel is best for you.

Good Luck
Reply:Choose the one you're best at and you are really interest in. If you like both of them, you can do both of them, but you just have to manage your time well!
Reply:You'll find a job a lot easier majoring in Computer Science. Pure Mathematics majors have difficulties finding jobs directly related to their major without a PhD. Until then, you'd do something with applied math--computer-related jobs are one of the big employers of Math graduates.

You could try doing a double major or getting a minor in Math with a CS major. The extra mathematical background will be a big benefit to you.
Reply:i personally would say math because it is my favorite subj, but 4 some reason i no that computer science wud probably be better
